Search
How the command palette and quick search match and rank your snippets.
Where to search
- Command palette: Cmd+K or Ctrl+K, or Search snippets… in the title bar. It shows up to 6 snippets, 3 folders and 8 actions.
- Quick search window: Option+Space or Ctrl+Shift+Space from any app. It shows up to 20 snippets.
How a query matches
Type words separated by spaces. A snippet must match every word.
- Words of 3 or more characters are searched in the title, the description, the tags and every fragment (its name and its text). They match anywhere inside a word:
ployfinds “deploy”. - Words of 1 or 2 characters match as plain text inside a field. On their own, they look only in titles and tag names. Mixed with longer words, they can match any field.
- Upper and lower case do not matter.
- Snippets in the Trash are never shown.
- Folder names are not searched in the snippet results. The palette matches folders separately, by their path.
There is no query syntax: quotes, *, -, OR and similar are searched for as ordinary characters. A query can be up to 500 characters; at most 12 different words are used.
Ranking
- Snippets with more of your words in the title come first. A title match always beats a match that is only in the text.
- Then by relevance (title counts most, then tags, then the description, then the text), boosted for snippets you use often and ones you used or edited recently.
With an empty query
The palette shows Recent. The quick search window lists up to 20 snippets, most recently used first, then ones you have never used.
